KISSIMMEE, Fla. -- Two Osceola County firefighters were killed
Tuesday morning in a training exercise in Kissimmee.
The exercise was being conducted at the Florida Bible College at the
intersection of U.S. Highway 17-92 and Poinciana Boulevard, WESH NewsChannel
2 reported.
The two firefighters were identified as Lt. John Mickel, an 11-year
veteran, and Dallas Beggs, 20. Both worked for the Osceola County Fire
Department.
They were the lead crew in the home during the exercise and apparently
became separated from their backup crew in an abandoned home behind the
college, when a flashover or roof collapse trapped them inside, Osceola
County Director of Emergency Services Tad Stone said.
Mickel was transported to Osceola Regional Hospital and Beggs was taken
to Florida Hospital-Kissimmee, before being pronounced dead, Stone said.
